Adult Steelpan Classes
"Discover the Rhythm. Embrace the Culture. Play the Pan."
About the Program
Learn Steelpan with CAFE
For 30 years, the Cultural Academy for Excellence has been teaching the art of steelpan to young people across the DMV region. Now, we're bringing that same world-class instruction to adults who want to experience the joy of Caribbean music firsthand.
Our Adult Steelpan Classes offer a unique opportunity to learn this beautiful instrument in a supportive, community-focused environment. Whether you've always been curious about steelpan or you're looking for a creative outlet that connects you to Caribbean culture, this program is designed for you.
No prior musical experience is required. We provide all instruments and materials. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Not at all! Our classes are designed for complete beginners. If you have some musical background, that's great too. Candice tailors instruction to meet each student where they are.
Do I need to bring my own instrument?
No. CAFE provides all steelpan instruments for class use. Just bring yourself and comfortable clothing.
What is the PanTones ensemble?
PanTones is CAFE's adult steelband. Students who complete the introductory class are invited to join PanTones and continue developing their skills while performing at community events throughout the DMV.
