Wenona Majaette— 2025 CAFE Graduate
Wenona Lisette Majette, a CAFE student since 2017,
and Positive Vibrations member since 2020, was born
in Melbourne, FL. and homeschooled from shortly after 2nd grade through 12th. Her musical and dance beginnings began with a music teacher in Sebastian who introduced her to piano and the drum set; and dancing with local African American, Caribbean, and Haitian community groups in Brevard County FL. Upon moving back to the Washington, D.C. metro area in 2017, Wenona and her brother joined Cafe at the urge of Mrs. (‘Grandma’) Daniels. “Just leave them here for the rest of the day! No charge! They will beg to come back next week.” Wenona has spent her Saturdays with CAFE ever since. Wenona is currently a teaching intern in the CAFE Academic Programs.
Wenona has excelled at the arts and liberal arts, taking a strong liking to the arts program headed by Mrs. Caesar at CAFE. She quickly caught on with playing the steelpans under Ms. Josanne Francis, Ms. Khandeya Sheppard, Mr. Domenic Lewis, and several helpful CAFE alum. Wenona has also simultaneously grown in her talents with dance, joining the generations of sister, aunt, mother friends as part of the Farafina Kan performance ensemble also in Mt. Rainier. MD,.
As a homeschooled student, Wenona has benefitted from Prince Georges Co and the District of Columbia, regarding special teachers, resources, research, sports/fitness activities, and internships. She has blossomed interests in infant care, or early childhood learning and currently tutors in American Sign Language at CAFE’s Afterschool Program. She has assisted in Boutique retail and child care at two local black businesses and has provided child care assistance for several children ages 0-9.
Wenona plans to attend South Carolina State University Majoring in Early Childhood education Bachelors and Masters program with emphasis in Speech Pathology/Audiology.
