The After School Academy at CAFE gives children ages 6 to 14 a structured, nurturing environment from the moment school ends to the moment you pick them up. Your child will complete their homework, eat a healthy snack, and spend real time in music, steelpan drumming, and visual arts instruction — all on-site at our Mount Rainier, Maryland campus. This is not a holding space. It is a learning environment built on 30 years of results.

Your child is in trained hands from the moment school lets out. CAFE's After School Academy runs Monday through Friday, 2:00 to 6:30 p.m., with consistent staff every week of the school year. You go to work knowing your child is not just safe — they are exactly where they need to be.

Steelpan drumming, music instruction, and visual art are not extras here. They are central to what we do. Your child builds focus, discipline, and creative confidence through hands-on instruction that carries into every classroom and every stage of life.

Every afternoon includes dedicated homework assistance led by CAFE staff. Your child arrives home with assignments complete, a mind stretched in all the right ways, and the foundation to build on what they learned that day.

Every afternoon follows a consistent rhythm so your child knows what to expect — and can thrive within it.
Arrival and Afternoon Snack
Students arrive at CAFE, settle in, and enjoy their first snack of the afternoon.
Transition and Bathroom Break
A brief structured transition prepares students for the academic block ahead.
Academic Enhancement and Homework Assistance
Two hours of focused homework time with CAFE staff support. Students complete assignments and receive academic reinforcement.
Snack and Indoor / Outdoor Break
A second snack and movement break gives students the energy they need for the arts block ahead.
Arts Activities — Music, Steelpan Drumming, and Visual Art
Students rotate through CAFE's signature arts programming: steelpan drumming, music instruction, and visual art.
Program Ends
Students are released to families. Pickup is at 2705 Queens Chapel Rd, Mt. Rainier, MD 20712.
