Happy Women’s History Month!

Women's History Month began in 1987, but its origins date back to 1909.

In 1909 and 1910 a plethora of immigrant New York women working in garment factories went on strike against heinous and unsafe working conditions. This strike, followed by a major factory fire in 1911, eventually pushed lawmakers to pass legislative protection for factory workers. One year later, The very first Women’s History Day was born.

Every Women's History Month has a theme?

2024’s Women's History Month theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion", recognizing women who's efforts towards positive change and a positive future excludes no one in the hopes to uplift everyone!

Learn more about it on the National Women's History Alliance website!

LEARNING | LEADERSHIP | ACHIEVEMENT

Our students excel academically and in extra-curricular through their experiences with CAFE.

Each student finds their passion and their strength. They often stay with us into adulthood, returning to serve, mentor and inspire the next generation. Our students leave CAFE as confident, purpose driven and highly networked individuals. At CAFE, we are proud that our students are our legacy!

We explore the world together.

International exchange is one of our key features. Our children deserve to explore this vast world and create dynamic world views that take our nations forward.

“Dare to Dream, Prepare to Succeed”

The Cultural Academy for Excellence (CAFE) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. CAFE began in 1996 with a grant from the Kaiser Permanente Building Hope Foundation.

Now in its 26th year, founder and CEO Lorna Green, together with the Board of Directors, committed professionals, and community leaders lend their expertise to keep CAFE’s program innovative and dynamic.

Pan and Poetry!

Produced by the Cultural Academy for Excellence and sponsored by the AKA Pearl Elegance Foundation, Pan and Poetry is an intimate presentation of poetry and spoken word, accompanied by the high notes and low notes of the steel pan. It is a celebration of women, particularly those in leadership, the arts and service.
